****IMPORTANT**** It was brought to the attention of the Board that the large Maple tree next to our trail head at the beach is leaning over the beach. This tree's roots have been badly eroded over the years and now a large Hemlock tree has fallen from the hillside above onto the tree breaking branches and pushing the Maple further over. Please tell everyone in your households, and any guests, to avoid going under the tree. Caution should also be observed when transiting the trail near the trees base. The association will be posting a Caution Sign by the tree. Because this tree is located on private property, and it's close proximity to the shoreline, Kitsap County Shoreline Management and the property owners will need to be consulted prior to any action being taken by the board on this issue.
Kitsap County Department of Community Development (Planning and Permitting), is the agency in charge of shoreline management. The county (and State) advocates for natural beach lines; that is to let wind, rains, and tides control the shoreline. The county does not consider trees that threaten roads and trails as dangerous. (Dangerous trees are those that threaten buildings and other structures.) They do not issue permits for the felling of non-dangerous trees within the shore line buffer zones. The planner stated he sees there is no reason to cut it down. Everyone must continue to avoid going under the tree. It is most likely to naturally fall during high tides and/or high winds.
